CIHA MEETING NOTES
JUNE 14, 2010 7:00 PM
Members present: Maureen Thomas, Craig Leonard, Kelly House, Judy Paulson, Sherry Woodbeck, Bill Fitzgerald, Richard Brooks, Shelly Brooks, Matt Slicker, Sharon Jacob, Michael Marcum, Linda Tolman and Renee Brodie.
FIREWORKS
Fireworks are scheduled for Friday July 2 with a rain date of July 10. We are still in need of donations. As of the date of this newsletter, we have raised almost $9000 of the $11,000 needed. Richard Brooks will be going door to door during the next two weeks. If you haven’t donated yet, please send a check to Dave Weber, or give it to Richard when he stops by.
Parking: We will be taping off the park again for extra vehicle parking to alleviate some of the parking concerns we have had in the past. Please ask your guests to park on one side of the street (across from the mailboxes) and pull off of the road on to the grassy county right of way to allow traffic to pass in and out of the subdivision.
TREASURER’S REPORT
As of June 14, 106 members have paid dues. A copy of the current financial report is attached.
BOTTLE & CAN DRIVE
We raised almost $500 with our Bottle & Can Drive at the park. Thanks to Sherry Woodbeck for the great idea. Thanks also to Kelly House, Renee Brodie, Linda Tolman, Maureen Thomas & Sherry Woodbeck for doing the dirty work! We are considering holding another one after July 4th (with the other side of the lake) to start the fund for next year’s fireworks. Contact Sherry Woodbeck or Renee Brodie to volunteer.
SPRADER'S FUNDRAISER
The Sprader’s on the Lake fundraiser was a HUGE success despite the rainy weather. $1025 was raised for the fireworks and everyone had a great time with friends and neighbors. Thanks to Matt Sprader, Patti Page, Marv & Denise Younger and Pat & Tom Schwind for sponsoring the event again this year.
PARK CLEAN-UP
Park Clean-up was May 1. In addition to the usual clean up of branches, weeds and debris; the fence was painted and repaired. We still have a pile of branches to burn and a portion of the fence still needs painting. If you’d like to help, contact cedarislandhoa@hotmail.com.
Thanks to this year’s volunteers: Dave Weber, Craig Leonard, Chuck & Kelly House, Maureen Thomas, Renee Brodie, Jeremy Macbeth, Bill Fitzgerald and John Macbeth
BOAT LAUNCH
The township still has not drafted the ordinance to monitor the boat launch despite our suggestions to overcome funding issues. Maureen plans to talk to Township officials and/or the Township legal counsel to try to get this moving.
PROGRESSIVE DINNER
This year’s progressive dinner will be July 31(the date in the directory is incorrect). Two more host homes are needed. Contact Shelly & Richard Brooks to host or sign up to attend.
LADIES WINE TASTING
We are looking for volunteers for the ladies wine tasting. We need one volunteer to hostess the party. The hostess gets to pick the date but does not need to supply food or drink. We are also looking for a coordinator to organize the menu. Email cedarislandhoa@hotmail.com if you are interested in hosting or organizing.
GOOSE ROUND-UP
John Morawski and Maureen Thomas attended the DNRE class and handled the nest removal in May. The round up took place last Saturday. The names of the volunteers and number of geese removed were not available at the time of printing and will be reported in the next newsletter.
WEBSITE
If you have any pictures of the lake or neighborhood activities please send them to Kelly House at cedarislandhoa@hotmail.com to be posted on the website www.ciha.us.
DIRECTORY UPDATE
We will not be putting out a full directory this year. We will distribute an update with new neighbors and a 2011 calendar in the fall.
ADDITIONAL CONCERNS
Summer is here, please remember to shut your garage doors & turn on outside lights to deter crime.
GARAGE SALE
We will be holding our annual neighborhood garage sale Friday and Saturday, Aug. 27&28.
Please contact Kelly House for more information: cedarislandhoa@hotmail.com.

CIHA MEETING NOTES
MARCH 9, 2010 7:00 PM
Members present: Maureen Thomas, Dave Weber, Kelly House, John Morawski, Sherry Woodbeck, Linda Fitzgerald and Sue Tonkovich.
BOARD ACTIONS
Lawn care bid forms were sent to all members via email and to last year’s bidders. Komisarz & LaFontaine won the lawn cutting bid. The remainder of the work had been contracted to CIHA member Linda Tolman. .
PARK CLEAN-UP
Park Clean-up is scheduled for Saturday May 1. We received a bid to replace the fence in the park, but it would be significantly over budget, so we’ll need some help repairing it at the clean-up. We also located the pergola canopy which the Woodbecks have been kind enough to store over the winter. If you’d like to help with the clean-up, contact Craig Leonard, or email us at cedarislandhoa@hotmail.com.
BOAT LAUNCH
The township has advised that it currently lacks the funds to monitor the boat launch. We are looking into funding enforcement through a special assessment that will apply to all water front owners on the lake. 98% of responses to our email survey were in favor of this approach. John Morawski has offered to talk to Township Clerk Terry Lilly about this possibility.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Invoice mailing went out earlier this year. So far only 68 members have paid dues as of March 9. A second notice will go out soon. PLEASE PAY YOUR DUES TODAY.
FIREWORKS
We will be having a bottle & can drive to supplement fireworks donations the Tuesday after Memorial Day. Save those bottle & cans and drop them off at the park on June 1st on your way to work. We are also contacting people across the lake to host bottle drives in their neighborhoods.
CHRISTMAS BONFIRE
The Christmas bonfire was a big success. We were glad to see many new neighbors attending and helping out. Thanks to Craig for organizing this event and to Brian Bomarche, Matt Brown, Bill Fitzgerald and Matt Slicker for helping out with the fire and Mike & Linda Kucera for putting out the luminaries.
GOOSE ROUND-UP
The Goose Round-up was approved at the meeting as part of the 2010 budget. Golden Shores will again pay half of the cost. Some of the requirements have changed since last year. This year the DNRE will be charging $200 for the permit and the relocation price has increased slightly. We are also required to do nest destruction. John Morawski and Maureen Thomas will attend a training course.
BUDGET
The budget was approved. Once again we will only publish a directory if we can cover the cost through advertising. We also added line item for funeral acknowledgments. We will re-bid insurance in fall since the cost went up again. We also plan to plant trees in the Burgess and Coledale Ct. cul-de-sacs. A survey of the people living on the cul-de-sacs was sent out before the meeting. Coledale Ct. approved the tree planting with five yes votes and one no, while Burgess had two yes votes in favor of new trees. Next we will obtain estimates and opinions on what types of trees to plant.
ADDITIONAL CONCERNS
The speed limit on Oxbow Lake Road has recently been raised to 45mph. If you are having trouble pulling out of the subdivision, please call Oakland County Road Commission with your complaints at 877-858-4804.
DOG OWNERS: PLEASE BE CONSIDERATE OF YOUR NEIGHBORS. Keep your dogs on a leash when outdoors. It's the law in Michigan. When you look at your dog you see the beloved family pet that would never hurt anyone. But kids walking to the bus stop or a friend's house and folks walking or jogging through the subdivision for exercise (who don't know your beloved family pet) see an unleashed, barking animal racing at them ready to attack. And don't forget to take the pooper scooper when you walk your dogs or take them to the park.
FUTURE BOARD MEETINGS
Board meetings are open to the entire association and are held quarterly. Dates will be published in the newsletter and/or reminders posted on the park sign. We welcome your attendance and are interested in your opinions. If you have an item to add to the agenda, please contact a board member a few days prior to the meeting.

Meeting Notes
October 7, 2009 7:00 PM
Present: Maureen Thomas, Renee Brodie, Dave Weber, Kelly House, Craig Leonard, John & Barb Morawski, Richard Brooks and Rowena Elick
Association Directory
The 2009 directory is being distributed with this newsletter. CIHA raised almost $500 with the advertising! Thank you to Steve Cooper, Renee Brodie, Maureen Thomas and Dave Weber.
Garage Sale
Great weather and a big turnout made this year’s garage sale a big success. A special thanks to Tom Woobeck for making our permanent garage sale sign. Due to several requests next year’s sale will be shortened to two days, Friday and Saturday only.
Ladies Wine Tasting
A great time was had by all at this years Ladies Wine tasting. Thank you to Judy Hepfer for doing a great job hosting this event.
Goose Round Up
Another fun and productive goose round up with 37 relocated this year. Thank you to our CIHA goose busters. See the Directory for a list of the volunteers.
2010 Fireworks
Next year’s firework will be held on Friday, July 2nd with a rain date of Saturday, July 10th. The contract has been signed and the deposit has been paid. This was the only date we were offered.
Park Fence Replacement/Repair
We will be getting quotes to repair the fence at the park. If the jobs is over budget we will also look into repairing the fence ourselves at next spring’s park clean up.
Bushes Blocking View at The Entrance
We had complaints from many members that the bushes at the home at 245 Oxbow Lake Road were not being trimmed and it was difficult to see oncoming traffic unless you drive a truck or SUV. We communicated with the homeowners in August and September. They agreed that a safety hazard existed and have trimmed the bushes this month.
Boat Launch Ordinance
The state has passed the bill regarding the boat launch enforcement; however the township has not passed an ordinance to enforce the restriction due to budget constraints. We have sent a letter to the township suggesting several ways that they could monitor the launch at little to no expense and are currently waiting for a response.
Feeding Ducks & Water Fowl
There have been compaints about residents
feeding ducks and other waterfowl in the neighborhood. Please see the attached notice from the DNR explaining why this is neither good for the ducks nor the lake.
Treasurer’s Report
Dave Weber reviewed the financial statement. Highlights: 106 of 145 members paid their dues so far this year and we had income from newsletter and directory ads. We raised $10,947 for fireworks and did not need to borrow money from the Association to pay the 2010 deposit.
Lake Levels
Last spring we had experienced some issues with high lake levels. There is a new county employee handling our lake who has admittedly had a few problems controlling the levels of the lakes. When we notice the level getting too high we need to immediately contact the Oakland County Water Resource Commission and let them know so that they can adjust the levels 248 858-1127 or wrc@oakgov.com.
CIHA Website
We have had an association website for a few years now but have never really utilized it. Beginning with this newsletter we will begin posting all CIHA newsletters to the site at www.ciha.us. In the future will we offer homeowners the choice of receiving the newsletter electronically or hardcopy. Those receiving the electronic version would be notified through the CIHA email list. Please check out the site. Your feedback and suggestions are welcome! Also thanks to Adam Woodbeck for setting up and administering this site.
Halloween Bonfire
Craig Leonard has volunteered to chair for the Halloween Bonfire. Halloween falls on a Saturday night this year so we are expecting a large turnout. Please contact Craig to volunteer at 248-321-9969.
We are also looking for volunteers to chair the Christmas Bonfire. Please call Craig Leonard to volunteer at 248-321-9969.
Snow Removal Contract
The majority at the meeting voted in favor of hiring a contractor to plow our snow again this year. The bidding form was sent out via email Oct. 13. If you know someone who would like to bid and need a form, please have them contact Maureen Thomas 248 698 0965 before Oct. 26th.
Please note the following: The contractor does not plow unless 4 inches of snow have fallen and does not begin to plow until the snow stops falling. Snow will not be cleared the full width of street. Residents are responsible for marking their property lines to avoid sod damage. The county is responsible for plowing and salting too, but needs prompting from several residents. If the roads are icy or snow covered please call Oakland County Road Commission at 248 858 4804.
Other Items That Were Voted On
The majority voted to publish the names of those who paid dues and /or contributed to the fireworks.
There was an on-line vote regarding the use of our CIHA email list. We had 5 votes for official CIHA business only, 2 votes for CIHA business or anything community related and 14 votes for two different email lists, one for CIHA business and a separate email for community events. If anyone is interested in administrating this second email listing please contact Maureen.
The majority approved planting new trees in the Burgess cul de sac now that Oakland County has repaired the drainage issues. We will look into a free tree grant through DTE to pay for trees and may add some benches to the area. Input from neighbors living in the cul de sac is welcome.
Future Board Meeting
Board Meetings are open to the entire Association and are held quarterly. Dates will be published in the newsletter and/or reminders posted on the park sign. We welcome your attendance and are interested in your opinions. If you have an item to add to the Agenda, please contact a Board Member a few days prior to the meeting.
Next Meeting
The Next Meeting will be Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at 7:00 pm – at the House’s – 10042 Cedar Shores Dr.
Respectfully Submitted,
